I have to laugh because we always comment while traveling how prominently Canadians display their flag-related clothing, hats and accessories!
Originally — as rumour has it — it was done to distinguish ourselves from Americans, who — as rumour has it — were not exceptionally gracious travellers. I’m pretty confident that Americans are now less obnoxious and our own government now more so.
I think there are enough obnoxious travelers on both sides of the border that we need not distinguish any longer :-)
